Thanks for putting me on the ballot
|
|
I’m running for Ulster County Legislator on the LIBERTY COALITION independent line and I owe a big "thank you!" to hundreds of people who took the time to sign my petition and put me on the November ballot.
You transformed the seemingly endless task of getting signatures into a fascinating journey. Meeting neighbors of all political colors validated my belief that we all have similar concerns – what we have in common is much stronger than what makes us different.
Thanks to those who asked questions – whether trying to better understand the redistricting issue or to find out about my four-year experience as a Town Councilwoman. Thanks to those who strongly challenged me on tough county issues and then signed the petition – sometimes after debating for twenty minutes.
Thanks to the lady who said her views are different from mine but nevertheless signed my petition because she respected my desire to serve. Thanks to all those who came to me and asked to sign. Thanks to the neighbor who told me I have a lovely accent... Thanks to the youngest voters for whom signing my petition was their first political act.
On Election Day you exercise the right to vote for your choice – if you are given one. Lately, you could have skipped voting: the people on the ballot would’ve gotten "elected" anyway, having no challengers at all!
"We, the people" are told by "Them, the party chairmen" to vote for their "chosen" few – usually their friends, wives or blind followers.
By putting me on the ballot you actually created the only race in the Town of Rochester (which constitutes most of legislative District 21).
I am honored to have served the people of the Town of Rochester as Councilwoman for four years, and would use everything I’ve learned to find realistic solutions to our problems at the county level. I have the courage to voice my opinion, popular or otherwise.
My personal, professional and political experience qualify me for the job of County Legislator. I have passionate determination, and the freedom to focus on serving you.
Please vote for me on the LIBERTY COALITION independent line on November 8.
Thank you for signing my petition. Thank you for your trust. Thank you for your vote!

Manuela Michailescu's Speech at the Rochester Republican Caucus

David O'Halloran recently told me: "You are too honest to be in politics." I took it as a compliment...and here I am, running for Legislator in District 21.
The new District 21 is Town of Rochester and a small part
of Wawarsing. The new District 21 is mostly our town,
and I know our town's issues and needs.
Four years ago I thanked you for your trust. Today I thank you for the opportunity to get so much experience. I've grown a lot in the last 4 years and I strongly believe that local government
experience is key to what you need in a Legislator.
Local experience means exposure to all aspects of town's life.
I've learned from the issues we faced, from our accomplishments, from attending training sessions, from my fellow town board
members, and from the people with whom I was in touch.
Local experience means carefully considering the impact county issues could have on Town's residents, especially in terms of taxes — we cannot carry any extra burden!
I'm a proud member of a Town Board with a great legacy of not raising taxes, of not wasting taxpayers’ money. I would work to keep our county's taxes as low as possible, making sure our District is not unfairly taxed.
I'm proud to run on my record as Councilwoman.
Ask the Veterans — who love the Veterans Park — about my determination in getting the project completed...
Ask the tens of applicants for boards and commissions about their open interview process...
Ask members of the Youth Department, Youth Commission and Historic Preservation Commission about my involvement, my follow up abilities and my attention to details...
Ask the firemen: who came to the long and stormy meetings before their numerous problems were finally solved?
Ask the reporters who covered all town board meetings how thorough and consistent I am...
I would bring a "nuts and bolts" approach to addressing the issues (something missing from the current Legislature).
I'm not going to promise you the moon, but I promise to work hard for you, not for my own interests.
In the 2009 Election you made me the winner of the Republican line in all 18 local districts. I feel I owe it to those who voted for me to run again. I don’t have political ambitions. I just desire to serve you to the best of my ability.
Is politics for honest people? You will provide the answer
on September 13, in the Republican primary.
Thank you for your trust and thank you for your vote!.

Town of Rochester Councilwoman Manuela Michailescu enters the race
for Ulster County Legislature, District 21
|
|
Kerhonkson, NY — June 14, 2011 — Town of Rochester Councilwoman Manuela Michailescu announced today her intention to run on the Republican line for the seat of Ulster County Legislator representing District 21.
Locked out of the race for Legislature two years ago, Michailescu forced a primary on the Republican line, and was the highest vote-getter in the Town of Rochester. In the election, she won the Republican line in all 18 local districts of the former Ulster County District 1 (Rochester, Wawarsing and Marbletown).
"I feel I owe it to those who voted for me to run again,” Michailescu says. “By talking to people in our district I understood what they are looking for in a Legislator. I am encouraged and overwhelmed by their trust in me. I will continue to reach as many voters as possible before Primary Day on September 13... My message is simple: I’m eager to listen and ready to work hard for the people of District 21.”
With four years experience in local government, Michailescu was exposed to a wide range of town issues, and is familiar with the impact county issues can have on town's residents.
"I am proud of my work on the Town of Rochester’s Town Board and as Liaison to the Historic Preservation and Youth Commissions. I've grown a lot in the last four years, staying involved, getting things done in a non-partisan manner. I've learned from the difficult issues we faced, from our accomplishments, from attending training sessions, from my fellow town board members, and from the people I was in touch with...
I'm a principled fighter for what is right and I hope I can continue to serve the people in the Town of Rochester as well as those in east Wawarsing."
Manuela Michailescu, 61, born in Romania, immigrated to the United States in 1980 and moved to Kerhonkson in 2001. Manuela has a MA in Theater and Film Critique and an MBA in Marketing / Advertising from Baruch College, City University of New York. She won the First Prize Award in the 1987 Philip Morris Marketing / Communications competition. Manuela is the co-owner of two small businesses: Point Blank Inc. (an advertising agency specialized in tourism marketing) and Old Brick House Antiques.
